"BOUND" - A Solo Exhibition by Daniel Caster
This body of work consists of pastel drawings executed on different colored papers and, both oil and acrylic paintings on wood panel. A select number of the drawings and paintings include gilt accents and underlay.
Show Description: The show represents a unique collection of contemporary portraits to include both Native Americans and Islamic Jihadists. The majority of the images depict actual individuals I have met and, focuses on my attempt to capture the pride, power and intensity of their personalities. All of the images are tight renderings which are influenced by my background as a formally trained Illustrator.
Artist Statement: People are the most difficult and interesting subjects an artist can attempt to capture. Having had the opportunity to experience an intense life adventure spanning three decades in over 35 countries, I am now trying to reflect on what I saw through my art. Even though these images are from the optic of a Military Veteran and CIA Counter Terrorism Officer, I was always an artist. This show is my attempt to portray true patriots, real villains and hopefully also capture the gentle beauty of humanity on paper and panel.
